COMPANY PROFILE

Incorporated in 1987 by Tony Rumbold and two minority investors, Scanz is a specialised supply company servicing the aquaculture/fishing, meat, and cheese industries.  Tony was already well known in the New Zealand Food Industry and a professional Food Technologist.

The name Scanz is an acronym derived from Scandinavia, Australia and New Zealand.  Much of the Company’s technology still comes out of Scandinavia.

To strengthen its activities in Australia, Scanz Technologies Pty Ltd was formed in 2004.  The main focus in Australia is centred on the burgeoning Aquaculture industry.

Scanz also has broadened its activities to include some food additives and speciality ingredients, particularly for ice-cream

International suppliers are carefully chosen and are usually world leaders in their field.  Beyond that Scanz maintains a substantial data base of technology partners from around the world, which can be contacted on a selected basis.

Representation is Australasian wide, with regular travel throughout both countries.  This is supported by appropriate service engineers in all major centres.

Philosophy

The company philosophy is a TEAM approach – “TOGETHER EVERYONE ACHIEVES MORE”. The strategy is structured to work as follows:

Scanz operates with a limited staff, but is supported by two dedicated contractors – John Cassidy (Meat and fish) and Stephen Low (Packaging and Cheese)

Annual sales are between US$2m and US$5m depending on the scale of various projects.

Banking connections are maintained with the ASB in Auckland and the National Australia Bank in Hobart, Tasmania.

A new development is a collaboration with Southern Engineering Services Limited in Christchurch.  Jointly we are manufacturing the Prime Cut L® range of meat machinery for the Lamb industry.
